Happy Thanks giving
Times are still tough for so many of us COVID has changes our lives in so many ways! 2 years ago we could never have imagined what was about to happen. My heart goes out to anyone who has lost love ones these are the true victims but for some of us the financial weight of COVID is still being felt! I had previously thought my business was bomb proof and felt secure in the knowledge that savings would get me through any bump in the road but when the global pandemic hit childminders we were forced to shut for our safety and the safety of our children, financial support from the Government was slow to kick in and savings were depleted the debts started racking up and we all wondered were this would end! I was one of the lucky ones with family who were there to keep my head above water financially and mentally but I know so many people didn’t have that and for those it will be a long road to recovery!
The biggest thing for me to be thankful for was the little surprise baby who entered the world on the 4th of December 2020. After so so many years of wanting another baby to find your pregnant a week after lockdown was announced was a shock! And all of a sudden lockdown became a godsend a quiet time to recover from dreadful morning sickness and having my partner furloughed meant I was looked after like a goddess and I could get on with growing a little human for that difficult first trimester.
So now I enter a phase of trying to regrow my business it’s been harder than imagined. People have lost there jobs or now work from home, Grandparents who stepped up during lockdown have continued to help there children with childcare to help them save money and the school runs are now being shared out between neighbours. Everyone is looking out for each other. This demonstration of community is awesome but makes we wonder how the childminder now fits into our new post COVID world! I love my job and hope I can carry on. I hope there are still parents out there that want the love, support and dependability that we offer. I am thankful for the amazing parents who share their children with me everyday. Fingers crossed childminders…
