Autumn leaves
Monday is a gardening day. There are so many jobs we can do together! We got a new compost heap this year and we have been making our own compost. Today the children collected leaves from the garden to compost while I cleaned out the chicken. All the leaves are falling off the tree in the garden which means we can see the birds better. We notice that long tailed tits and blue tits visiting us the most. We looked on the internet when we came in and learnt that winter can be a tough time for tits and other small birds as they don’t migrate and that the best way to help them is to provide high energy food such as fat balls, suet cakes and black sunflower seeds as well as clean unfrozen water for them to drink.
We also learnt that blue tits are really useful in the garden as they eat pests such as green and black fly, saw fly lava and small caterpillars.
It’s so rewarding to see the garden looking tidy we all felt very proud of ourselves.
